Hello, my name is Lauren Elizabeth Gryzmala and this is my website!

Introduction:   I am 21 years old, I attend St. Louis Forest Park Community College full time (including summer classes) and I work at the Galleria Mall here in St. Louis, Missouri.   I hope to own my own boutique someday!

Genealogy:   As a side note for all you genealogy buffs and researchers, I might consider adding a "Gryzmala" genealogy family tree section to my web site at some date in the distant future...   It all depends on the feed back and interest I receive concerning genealogy!   I am very responsive to genuine consideration, encouragement and appreciation...

Intent:   I will use this website to discuss how I juggle my life to pursue my career in fashion merchandising, my responsibilities associated with my present employer, my personal "free" time for love and romance, and now... this website.

I will move all my personal info and introduction to a separate "about" page at some point in the future when I have time to redesign my site.   I just wanted to get my site started and this is it for now...

Goal:   It is through my struggles, my sacrifices, my setbacks, my achievements and my accomplishments that I hope to relate to, encourage and inspire today's young, aspiring business woman!   I will overcome all obstacles and roadblocks encountered in my path to happiness and success and I will succeed... as you can too!

Drug Induced Date-Rape:   The drugs Rohypnol and GHB are being used to render victims helpless in order to sexually assault them.   Both drugs possess disinhibiting sedative and amnesiac properties.   The drug is usually administered to the victim in an alcoholic drink at a bar, party, or social function.

Rohypnol is a brand name for flunitrazepam (a benzodiazepine), a very potent tranquilizer belonging to the same class of drugs which include Valium (diazepam), Librium and Xanax, but many times stronger.

The drug is often distributed on the street in it's original "bubble packaging" which adds an air of legitimacy and makes it appear to be legal.

Flunitrazepam has never been approved for medical use in the U.S., therefore, doctors cannot prescribe it and pharmacists cannot dispense it.   However, it is legally prescribed in over 60 other countries and is widely available in Mexico, Colombia, and Europe where it is used for the treatment of insomnia and as a pre-anesthetic.

What does it look like?   A small white tablet with no taste or odor when dissolved in a drink.

The drug has been added to punch and other drinks at fraternity parties and college social gatherings, where it is reportedly given to female party participants in hopes of lowered inhibitions and facilitating potential sexual conquest.

Police departments in several parts of the country say that after ingestion of "Roofies" that several young women have reported waking up in frat houses with no clothes on, finding themselves in unfamiliar surroundings with unfamiliar people, or having actually been sexually assaulted while under the influence of the drug.

It is difficult to estimate just how many flunitrazepam-facilitated rapes have occurred nationally.   Often, biological samples are taken from the victim when the effects of the drug have already passed and only residual amounts remain in the body fluids.   These amounts are difficult, if not impossible, to detect using standard screening tests.   If flunitrazepam exposure is to be detected, urine samples need to be collected within 72 hours and subjected to sensitive analytical tests.   The problem is compounded by the onset of amnesia after ingestion of the drug, which causes the victim to be uncertain about the facts surrounding the rape.   This uncertainty may lead to critical delays or even reluctance to report the rape and to provide appropriate biological samples for toxicology testing.

COMMON STREET NAMES:   Date-Rape Drug, Roofies, Ruffies, Roche, R-Z, Rib, Rope, Stupefi, Shays, Roachies

USE AND EFFECTS:   Rohypnol is ingested orally, frequently in conjunction with alcohol or other drugs.   The effects begin within 30 minutes, peak within 2 hours and may persist for up to eight hours or more depending on the dosage.   Adverse effects of this drug are a decrease in blood pressure, memory impairment, drowsiness, visual disturbances, dizziness and confusion, and with some people it can cause excitability and aggressive behavior.

It is commonly reported that persons who become intoxicated on a combination of alcohol and rohypnol have "blackouts" lasting 6 to 12 hours following ingestion.   Disinhibition is another widely reported effect.   By itself, rohypnol is very unlikely to cause death but with alcohol the possibility exists that the combination could be fatal.

Rape Prevention:   Believe it or not, there are several precautionary steps you can take to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim.   "Rape is a violent crime, an invasion, a frightening experience.   Rape affects all women, no matter what their age, race or economic status.   All women are potential victims of sexual assault.   By being aware, a woman can reduce the likelihood of becoming a rape victim.   This does not mean all rapes can be prevented.   Rapists commit rape -- NOT VICTIMS!"

Wal-Mart Assault Points to Need For "Danger Awareness"

Featured Story!   The recent assault of a woman in a Wal-Mart parking lot (as reported in Courier News, April 14, 2009) brings the importance of "Danger Awareness" to the forefront of women's safety issues in the River Valley and elsewhere around the country.   Broad daylight wasn't enough of a deterrent for this assailant; as he sought to force his way into her vehicle, threw the woman to the ground, and made off with her purse.   Had he entered her vehicle, things could have potentially been worse.

The Problem:   Russellville is becoming a "big city" and with that comes (unfortunately) big city problems, including crime.   In a nation where women are increasingly targeted, being "danger aware" is an important defensive mechanism every woman should use.   Shoppers are often distracted as they enter or leave a shopping center, and parking lots are becoming increasingly popular targets for predators looking for victims.   By following a few simple safety tips, women can better minimize their risk of becoming a victim.

Lauren's Shopping Tip # 1

Shop during daylight hours and park as close as you can to the front of the business.   You are less likely to be targeted in a crowd of people, as predators seek "windows of opportunity" to isolate a victim to accomplish their task.   Shopping with a friend or relative is also helpful, as there is typically safety in numbers.

Lauren's Shopping Tip # 2

Practice "danger awareness" as you enter and leave a parking lot.   Put yourself in the predator's role and avoid placing your vehicle (and yourself) in areas that might isolate you from others and make you more vulnerable.   Don't park near vans, as predators often lay in wait for women to approach, pull them into the side door of a van, and speed away.

Lauren's Shopping Tip # 3

Walk confidently, keeping aware of the people in front of you, behind you, and to your sides.   Don't get into the habit of walking with your head down, or be digging through your purse or bags as you approach your vehicle.   Have your keys in hand before you leave the store and be observant as you leave.   Make sure you are not being followed, and that you are not isolated in an empty parking lot, especially at night.

Lauren's Shopping Tip # 4

As you approach your car, look around it, under it, and make sure no one is hiding or waiting for you.   Also, look into the vehicles around your car to make sure no one is waiting for you to return.   If you are uncomfortable approaching your car alone, turn around and return to the store.   It's okay to ask a store employee or store manager to accompany you to your vehicle.

Lauren's Shopping Tip # 5

Keep your purse held tightly against your body, with the flap facing toward you.   Don't carry a large number of bags; use a shopping cart.   If you are approached, you can push the cart into the predator and run the other way.   If you are using a shopping cart, don't put your purse in the cart; keep it close to your body so it can't be easily snatched.

Lauren's Shopping Tip # 6

When shopping, don't flash large amounts of cash or wear expensive jewelry.   If using a debit or credit card, be aware cell phone cameras and other small hidden cameras can be used to take pictures of your card (or you entering your PIN) and this information can be used to steal your identity.
